Lora Katz, French Horn


Lora Katz – is a product of the Prince Georges County, Maryland Public School System. She’s played the horn for over 40 years since her seventh grade band director decided she had no future as the last chair trumpet. She earned an undergraduate degree in Instrumental Music Education from Towson (State) University, Maryland and a graduate degree in horn performance from Ithaca College, New York. Her major teachers have been David Phillips, Karen Sutter-Thornton and John Covert. After earning her degrees she joined the Air Force as a musician for a few years, but now works for the U.S. Department of Agriculture protecting American agriculture from plant pests and disease. When she’s not fighting hungry pests, she’s playing with Ensemble à la Carte, the Prince Georges Philharmonic, Trinity Chamber Orchestra, Virginia Grand Military Band, Fugitive Brass as well as at various other musical goings-on in the DC, VA, MD area.
